The Race
So we talked about preparing for the Trail Blazer Monday evening. I've been ok with it since I signed up weeks ago. I usually go head first into something with determination and no exit plan. That doesn't mean I am completely aware of what I'm getting myself in to. It just means that once I get started there is no turning back. Oh, I may falter, drag my feet, claw the walls, but I will complete it no matter what.
My determination was a little weaker after Frank mentioned "The Hill". Talking with Rich, who has actually climbed "The Hill", I had to imagine myself climbing the Matterhorn without a walking stick. But then I remembered, I had climbed that steep ramp up to Fort Mackinac in July. And I am in better shape now than I was back then. Well, that just dissolved my fear. Yes, it's going to be grueling. And yes, I will grumble and wheeze and cry a little. But slowly, with determination, I will reach the summit and head on to the flatlands. Unless I die of a pirate attack, a misguided meteor or cholera. You never know what to expect on The Oregon Trail Blazer! (cue scary music)

  3. Nice one Frank. I could hear the music of dread in the background.

  4. You will do just fine, I climbed "The Hill" with a very injured knee last year and did just fine, if I can do it, you can do it! There probably won't be any tears but I can't promise there won't be wheezing or cholera, there might be cholera.
