BMSW is so great I may just "ship" my pants

The story is told of how upon reaching the new world in 1519, Hernan Cortes burned his fleet of ships.  His concern was that his men be totally committed to the mission.  He didn’t want them to be able to back out or return to the safety and comfort of home prior to reaping their booty.  The result left the crew completely SOL (ship out of luck).  They had to finish the job, they had no other way out.  He had “shipped” them, if you will.

In hopes of someday having the gumption to lose the weight I had been steadily gaining over the past years, I refused to donate the trousers I had outgrown, vowing to one day wear them again.  As this program has progressed I have dropped down two tiers of pant sizes.  At my current pace of weight loss I have pants that I should be able to wear until very close to the end of BMSW season 3 if not to its conclusion.  At that point I will need to make other clothing arrangements.  The question going forward is, will I have the courage of conviction that Cortes had?  Am I willing to “ship” my pants?  Do I have what it takes to stay on the path that has been laid before me?  I think I do… this time I mean it.  : )  I don’t want the security of having bigger pants to wear if the ones I have become uncomfortable.  The program is working.  With the help of our leaders my pants have been changed, I have been changed, and for that I am truly grateful.  I’m looking forward to a time after BMSW is completed; a time when I reach my goal, when I exercise full control, when I “ship” my pants and don’t need someone else to change me.

Fellow contestants, will you join me?  Will you too emulate Cortes and “ship” your pants?

  1. I shipped some of my pants to the highest bidders on EBay.

  2. Rich, you're killing it and are a model BMSW citizen. It's really encouraging to see someone who's had an epiphany and "gets it" in the right way.

As I read your post, I realized that at this moment I'm wearing a shirt that is three sizes too big for me. I'll join you in your quest and ship my shirt ...

  3. I am already shipping my pants. They have done their due diligence and are now retired to a Goodwill near you. My jeans on the other hand are so far gone, I will be deep sixing them. Rich, good for you for planning on the next step.

  4. Alas, I had reached the point where I bought my work pants from the big and tall store and they are made with elastic in the waist band. As such, they've come in and the elastic has compensated. Still, they are too big and my belt is on its last hole (on the small side this time). Although for pants I'm waiting to see where I'm at a month from now, I do think that it's time to ship my belt and buy one where I'm on the last notch on the big side.

  7. I also have a pair of Levi's that I used to wear when I mowed the grass that are now too large. I accidentally spilled mower fuel on them once and they were never the same. I guess I could get rid of my big gas jeans too.

  8. Maybe you could dispose of your large fishing trousers too. You know, your big bass pants.

Sounds like pirate talk to me! Haha!

  10. Rich, you can do this. Ship 'em! A business trainer I happen to totally respect wears decades old clothes that she spent WAY too much $$$ on, and freely admits it. That said however, she refuses to stop wearing them so long as they last, even if her size changes. She has been willing to do what is necessary to remain faithful to steward over what she has been blessed with. Quite the commitment, and she'll tell you that if she can do it, so can you!

  12. FIRST - OOOOh my! Second - do it man! Have a ceremony and SHIP those pants! I have a rule for myself, as soon as I start looking sloppy in something (because it's fitting me too loose, from my shrinking) it goes in a pile beside my door which once a month goes in a bag and donated to goodwill. I don't let them stay, because I don't want that mentality! I won't go back! I won't let myself.
