There are countless things that mankind has invented that make me question our sanity as a species. Things like the rack, nuclear weapons, and this thing that's called "Jacob's Ladder" come to mind. It is torture incarnate. Whoever thought that this was a good idea was one sick puppy. They could have at least made it more stylish, something like this:
