Day 2: Let the sweating begin!

This morning was our first workout at the gym. Never really thought stretching and marching could make me sweat so much. Must mean it is effective. Had a few short incidents of dizziness throughout the process. It is a known side effect of the BP med I am on. Nonetheless, outside of a little stiffness (and forgetting a couple of essentials at home), I am feeling great and just checked the BP: 118/74. Pretty good.

My greater concern is the remaining calorie balance for the day. Only 40 left after logging breakfast, lunch, snacks, and exercise into MyFitnessPal. Oh well, I have a fix for that - A 2nd workout tonight on the recumbent spinner! The calorie killer for me was a plain bagel with peanut butter. Over 500 calories wasted - OUCH!

Lesson learned: Enter food BEFORE you eat it. Just like making a monthly family budget, I have to set the goal, examine every purchase, and make better choices with the intention of coming in at or just below budget.

Hope all my teammates are doing well and looking forward to next step in the journey. While today was tough after not having gym class like today's in at least 30 years, I look forward to the increased strength and endurance to come. I know God is preparing me for something where that will be required.

Going to be meditating on this verse today from 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (MSG):
You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.

  1. If I remember correctly, you shared with me yesterday that only one perfect person has walked on this earth. Don't forget to have grace with yourself :)
This week my fitness pal is to build awareness. Don't over do it tonight - we have 1 mile to benchmark tomorrow! I am going to enter my food BEFORE too lol. Thanks for sharing the lesson!
    Blessings! Great job today!

  2. Meal planning can be a "trial and error" process. You'll learn more every week in your nutrition class and also get meal plan ideas from your classmates! Good job logging and becoming aware.

  3. Bagels are killers. One of they first things they showed us was the right portion size for a bagel. It looked like a bagel bite. No worries. You'll quickly learn how many calories are in everything. Stay the course and you'll do great!

  4. What you experienced today is what I believe they hope you will experience this week, just the shock of how many calories are in the things we eat. This beginning part is always hard because we enter with no knowledge. Yes entering first can help, but what is going to help you even more is going to be the sessions that Jen will be having with you. You will gain new insight to look at more than just the calories.
