Food Diary "Ah Ha's!"

For some reason, I like to type rather than tap. Are you weird like me?

This morning, I was using the MyFitnessPal.com website to enter my food diary entries. When I was done, I did a quick scan to the bottom and noticed that even before dinnertime, my Sodium budget for the day was already spent.

So, I glanced up that column and had a revelation. The greatest source of Sodium in my diet is coming from packaged foods, like low fat cottage cheese (especially this one! WOW!), pre-packaged roasted chicken slices, flat-out bread, Miracle Whip, etc. In every case, the stuff that is not fresh fruits or veggies is loaded with it. I had heard that and knew that to be the case, but it literally jumped off the page at me on this screen! This was eye opening!

  2. I had my own "ah" moment today too. On yesterday's page I clicked on the "complete entry" button. Typically, I haven't done this much. When I did it today it said "If you eat like this every day you would weigh XXX pounds" (the actual weight was censored by the FDA in case small children were to see it). WOW! That opened my eyes. Granted, it may not be perfect but if I try different foods or reduce portions it can help guide me to where I want to be. I'll still need a balanced diet but provide food for thought (and thought for food)!
